Two Ancient Arts, One Path to Health and Longevity

If you are looking for the perfect health practice—exercises which integrate mind, body and spirit while helping to provide strength, resiliency, energy, clarity, calmness and balance—look no further than the ancient arts of Yoga and Tai Chi Chuan.

HISTORY OF YOGA

Yoga is a physical and meditative practice originating in India. The roots of Yoga go as far back as 3300-1700 BCE, with sites in the Indus River Valley depicting figures in postures resembling common Yoga meditative positions.

Derived from the Sanskrit word "yuj" (to yoke), Yoga is a means to join or unite the many aspects of the self through meditation, breathing, and gentle movements designed to reduce the distractions of the external world.

Yoga is for everyone—all ages, abilities and learning styles. Practicing Yoga promotes improvement in:

  • Muscle and bone strength
  • Joint range of motion and stability
  • Flexibility, balance and posture
  • Endurance
  • Weight management
  • Heart and lung function
  • Stress reduction and relaxation
HISTORY OF TAI CHI CHUAN

Tai Chi Chuan is a Chinese Martial Art designed to develop internal power. The origins of Tai Chi go back to the beginning of written history in China—back to the Tao Te Ching written by Lao Tzu around 6th Century BC and the I Ching, both of which provided the fundamental concepts of yielding and approaching that eventually became known as Yin and Yang.

While the identity of the actual founder of Tai Chi Chuan is disputed, modern Tai Chi is based on the family forms developed by Cheng Wang-ting (Chen style), Yang Lu-chu'an (Yang style), Wu Yu-hsiang (Wu/Hao style), Wu Chu'an-yu and his son Wu Chien-ch'uan (Wu style) and Sun Lu-T'ang (Sun style).

Offering the perfect blend of moving meditation, Chi Gung (deep breathing), and low-impact, stress-reducing  conscious movements for health, Tai Chi Chuan promotes flexibility, circulation and longevity. Tai Chi can be practiced by all ages and all shapes, sizes and builds.
